Job Description: Sr. Manager, Engineering - Tanzu Kubernetes Grid

Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) provides Enterprise organizations with a consistent, upstream compatible, Kubernetes substrate across SDDC, Public Cloud, and Edge environments that is ready for end-user workloads and ecosystem integrations. TKG builds on trusted open source and community projects, and delivers an engineered and supported Kubernetes platform for end users and partners. The TKG team is expanding in India and the Sr Manager of TKG India Engineering will be responsible for building and leading part of the India-based TKG team taking on responsibilities across multiple areas on the product as well as contributions to Kubernetes and other open source projects.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
This Sr. Manager position will be responsible for building an impactful and motivated team of developers-- effectively working, collaborating, and delivering innovative features for TKG, Kubernetes, and other related projects.
· The role partners with product managers and technical leaders
· Builds the team through recruiting and growing team members
· Aligns team activities to program and business objectives
· Continuously works with the team to ensure effective processes for accountability and predictability
· Facilitates collaboration and communication within and across teams
· Provides practical guidance to ensure prioritization and timely scoping
· Effectively communicates with many types of audiences
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months, you will work toward completing?
Success in this role will mean you are able to present TKG and how ties into the Tanzu portfolio, and the newly-formed team is executing against a shared vision. Team members have career development and growth plans established. The team feels empowered, recognized and challenged.

Until the team is fully staffed, recruiting talented and motivated engineers is your top priority.

This includes enabling them to excel in their day-to-day job, coaching them to grow within the engineering career ladder, and leveraging your domain expertise and organizational context to connect them with growth opportunities.
Build and execute the team’s roadmap in terms of methodologies, development processes, and team enablement to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Manage projects the team members are working on, helping the tech lead and team members deliver the projects on time, in scope, and at production-level quality
Understand the technical domain and ability to understand, and share architectural and technical guidance on full stack of TKG and Kubernetes
Encourage the team to invest in automation and tools that increase efficiencies and aid them in their day-to-day job.
Formulate leadership level messaging and communications
Be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Sudheesh Sudhakaran, Director of Engineering. Sudheesh recently joined VMware with the mission to create the TKG engineering team in India. He spent more than 12 years with VMware in various engineering roles prior to becoming the Head of Engineering and India MD for OVHcloud last 3 years.
Sudheesh will work with you to set the direction, provide guidance, and remove impediments. He will expect you to be autonomous, innovative, and passionate to achieve the team’s mission.
