The Legal Director is a multi-faceted role requiring a breadth of product experience, an instinct for innovation, and the wisdom to discern practical real-world risks from theoretical ones. You will have a particular interest in leveraging data in innovative ways to fuel products and generate insights. You are a diplomat, with the skills to bring folks together to collaborate and share information and ideas, and you thrive in a loosely coupled world where we lean into integrity and judgment over rigid rules and inflexible processes. You will be both a specialist in the science, and a generalist in your counseling, with the ability to digest competing legal and policy viewpoints in a manner that masterfully advances the business objectives, always with a view towards the overall company strategy.
Responsibilities
  • Support our data scientists and consumer insights team in the many ways they leverage data and insights to improve our models, tools and enhance the member experience.
  • Provide practical product counseling to enable rapid development of innovative products, coordinating closely with subject matter legal experts and distilling real world advice. In other words, you will be a legal generalist with a business instinct. This is not a compliance role.
  • Understand the studio world and content production, with some familiarity with business affairs.
  • Fluent in product and engineering principles with the ability to “speak science” as well as the skills to simplify these principles for others to understand.
Qualifications
  • JD required and active bar membership in the state of California or New York
  • 10+ years of legal experience in the entertainment and/or technology industries in a strategic leadership capacity, either through a law firm and/or an in-house role, with subject-matter experience in data science.
  • Strong track record demonstrating a collaborative approach, effective communication skills, and excellent legal/business judgment.
  • Strategic and creative thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, undeterred by ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and ability to quickly master new areas of technology.
